What would the effect had been if I, as do most if not all other ministers at this venue, stood on the bridge with the couple and had them and their bridal party turn their backs to these guests?

Look at the guests to the right and to the left of me. See the attentiveness. My ceremonies are designed on theatric principals, not in just replicating a centuries old ritual.
